Recipe for a good day

Start the night before by having an awesome Sunday and staying up late er, TALKING, to your husband.

Wake up before the kids do. (This is the secret to happiness. Though not neccessarily the penguin.)

Read your scriptures FIRST. (Even if the chapter was abnormally long and you didn't have time to wash your hair because of it. Spirit before beauty!)

Love them boys.
After breakfast, go blackberry picking. Fresh. Eat them all.

Once you're all hot and sticky, jump in the pool. Try to decide which is the more brilliant blue: the sky, the pool, or your son's eyes.

Have a special picnic lunch - grilled cheese-tomato-and-basil sandwiches and cinnamon sprinkled apple slices. Accept the fact that you're the best mommy. Ever.

Take eldest to school. Memorize his sweet just-bathed smell and count the freckles on his nose one more time. Kiss each one.

Go home - snuggle with baby and wrestle with two-year-old. Then put both down for a nap.

Switch the laundry and sweep the house. (You should do SOMETHING productive today ....)

Lick the last of the chocolate frosting from last week's cupcakes.

Blog.

Life tastes good.

  1. That sounds like a recipe for not just a good day but a great day!! Love it. Did you save some of the leftover chocolate frosting for me? Did you eat it on graham crackers?

  2. What a perfect day! I love me some boys and family and blackberrys. My grandma use to make the best blackberry cobbler ever and I have never been able to find that taste since she past away. No matter how hard I try. Miss it so...

  3. Mmmmmm. . . Blackberries. What a wonderful day. I need to try some of your recipes.

  4. Blackberries are out of season, and I don't have a pool.

And I have about six loads of laundry, mopping, vacuuming, dinner, and the looming homework battle to look forward to. Not to mention a bunch of other stuff that probably won't get got to today.

But I do have a hot hubby, and four adorable children, so I'm not totally lacking in goods. Oh, and we can't forget the blogging. Obviously I have that step down pat. I'm obviously great at that whole prioritizing thing...

  5. Oh man! When this post started out I was all ready to implement it, because I know you are right. But then you started talking about blackberries and swimming pools, and that tomato basil sandwich looks really good, but I haven't gone grocery shopping yet! Poo.

  6. Waking up before the kids and reading scriptures ALWAYS improves your statistical probability of having a good day. Unless it is the first time you've done it in a long, long time. Then you're pretty much guaranteed to have a rotten day because satan is a stinker. I love that demotivator! I haven't been to that site in a few years and didn't realize they had new ones. Yay!

  7. That's it - my life is complete. I love that your blog is in my life - and I must have that sandwich!

  8. Left the blackberries back in Seattle 11 years ago. Pool's cold. Beautiful baby now 14, has traded freckles for zits (not nearly as much fun to kiss).

But your post, well, that brought some good stuff back. Thanks for that!

  9. I often wonder how much stronger my marriage would be if my husband would wake up early with me...

  10. I did a few of these - not all - and it made for a better day than the previous few. Great advice, all around.

  20. ok, yes, truly the perfect day and although the later half will vary, I have to agree that the first 4 ingredients of your recipe will make every day our best day so far. And just like any good recipe, if we leave one out, we can hopefully add it in before the whole process is complete or too far gone to add it... we will notice the difference for sure.
You are amazing! Perhaps my new hero.
