First Date

I thrilled to your yes
When I asked you out last night
I went to bed just thinking what I'd say.

You looked so cool and charming
In your skinny jeans and shirt
Shamelessly, endlessly, the flirt.

The tickets were my treat -
The popcorn - the eats -
Your hot hand, slightly sweaty, pressed in mine

Your grin, it was contagious,
The movie, oblivious -
To your slow, whispered "I love you" in the dark

I giggled with your giggle
Your eyes locked on the screen -
In a trance, your mouth was always curving up

One foot out, one foot down
Tucked underneath
Or in my lap
We snuggled and snickered our way through

The lights go up and on we go
Quoting lines and giddy
We exchange one knowing look
And RACE
Through the lot

Holding hands and laughing
I always let you win

And you ask me, "Mom?
When can we go to the movies again?"

Just adorable. Great writing. Clever twist. LOVE those dates with the kids. They revel in one-on-one attention, having the spotlight shine just on them. What a cool mom.

So cute. Maybe when he's old, and you're a saggy wrinkled grandma-type person he can take you to the movies on his dime. And then write a poem about it. Except the racing to the car thing will probably not be an option. Unless you have a Jazzy or whatever else those motorized wheelchairs are called. Tell your son that I'll be waiting for that poem.

Too cute! And we're home so maybe once I dig out from under the laundry we can get together for a play date? Early next week? Maybe at Cute Pam's house since it's near you and then there will be lots of childrens. I'm sure she'll be happy I volunteered her....

So what did you see?

I was about to call you yesterday, and then I realized your Michigan number never made it in my phone. And I dreamt about looking at houses together.

When are you coming this way?

You are so amazing! I love the way you are so poetic in how you write and convey your thoughts:-) My girls love when they get their daddy daughter dates or mommy daughter dates. I think it really makes the kids feel special!
